Spotted shag
(Stictocarbo punctatus) Parekareka
Strikingly beautiful in breeding plumage, the spotted shag is an endemic shag confined to New Zealand. Two subspecies are recognised punctatus in the North Island and the northern and eastern South Island, and steadi the blue shag which breeds around southwestern South Island and Stewart Island.
