Yellow-eyed penguin (Megadyptes antipodes) Hoiho This penguin shares the dubious distinction of being one of the rarest penguins in the world. Habitat loss and predation have been the main factors in it's decline. Subantarctic populations seem secure but mainland populations are struggling. Conservation efforts have been making a difference and we get several opportunities to see these unique penguins on our tours.
