The Kiwi Team
Wendy is a fifth generation kiwi from a long line of farming
folk.
She has an honours degree in Agriculture specialising in
soil and water conservation. Like most young kiwi's Wendy
headed off on her OE (overseas experience) and ended up spending
8 years exploring remote parts of the world including SE Asia,
Canada, Central Europe, Israel, Egypt, Tunisia, Romania, South
Africa, Solomon
Islands and the United Kingdom. Here she volunteered at Slimbridge
Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and the Fair Isle Bird Observatory,
where she met Nigel.
Since returning to New Zealand 10 years ago, Wendy has concentrated
her work in conservation including pest management as well
as being involved in adult education with the Department of
Conservation's Conservation Corp programme in Southland and
Coromandel. Wendy has also worked on the Chatham Island taiko,
sooty shearwater, kakapo, brown kiwi and rare invertebrates.
Wendy's work over the last few years has involved monitoring
and management of NZ dotterel at Opoutere on the Coromandel
Peninsula.
Wendy is also a New Zealand Mountain Safety Council bushcraft
and outdoor first aid instructor. Wendy's main interests include
birding, tramping and travelling.
